Why is goodreads so slow

It offers a website and an app, and it allows you to create a collection and then share it. As a member, you create a profile that's searchable to other members, so they can find you and look at your collections. You can even message people, as Libib's messaging system is reminiscent of Twitter posts and how the communication flows there. You're free to catalog as much as you want, with a cap of , items, though it's doubtful that you'll even come close to reaching it.

Libib is one of the best media cataloging systems out there, if not the best. If you have a blog, aNobii is the best place for you. The platform allows you to connect your blog to your profile after you register as a user. Other than that lovely perk, aNobii is pretty close to Goodreads in what it offers. You can rate and organize books into categories, read and write reviews.

The platform also lets you email contacts, invite your Facebook friends, or even upload your contact list. And, you can join groups and discussions and become a part of the community. Revish has been around since It allows you to share your reading experiences and thoughts by writing reviews for titles you've read.

It lets you make a reading list, which you can then share with your friends, so they can see what you have your eye on. Apart from a reading list, you can also maintain a reading journal, which helps you know what you were reading at any given time. The Revish platform also encourages you to participate in groups and discussions and even create them. The website provides you with its API and widgets that help you add your Revish content to your blog or website if that's something you want to do.

Its design is a bit outdated, but it still does the job. Riffle is an excellent Goodreads alternative. Like Goodreads, Riffle lets you read and write reviews, as well as give ratings for what you've read. For a site that focuses a lot on the social aspect of reading , it makes it markedly difficult to engage with other readers.

Perhaps the biggest complaint of all from users was the cry for a better rating system. People love the yearly reading challenge. I myself credit the Goodreads challenge in addition to the Hour Readathon for my renewed love of reading. Folks also enjoy seeing what their friends are reading and what they think of those books. Many users enjoy using GR as a tracking tool. In the midst of communicating with frustrated and conflicted users, I decided to contact Goodreads directly to find out about their plans for the platform.

She also highlighted some of the recent feature implementations of note, including Kindle integration and the ability for users to view notes and annotations from authors. Use an excel or Google sheet to plan and log your reading.

There are many surprisingly detailed user-created sheets available online. The LibraryThing website is a social book cataloging website. Why I am deleting Goodreads and maybe you should, too. Reuse this content. Why not have a formatting bar like every single other website out there? Wow, I just italicized that with two keystrokes — thanks WordPress for being functional!

Why do they make this so difficult?? Staying on brand by throwing shade at Amazon as usual. If you thought using Goodreads on desktop is frustrating, just wait until you try the mobile app, which is barely usable at all! Not only is it somehow even slower and glitchier, but it has less than half of the functionality of desktop, which seems to defeat the purpose of having an app at all.

I honestly only use it to add books to my TBR and update my reading progress because anything else is too much for me to handle. Are you as frustrated about Goodreads as I am? What would you do to improve Goodreads if you could?

The search engine of Goodreads is terrible. I keep waiting for them to improve it, but nope. The worst is when I type in everything correctly, and wait for the book to appear, and not only does it NOT appear, but instead something totally different does!?

Meanwhile if I mistype even one letter, god forbid is show what I was looking for. Their comment function is so so SO old fashioned and such a bloody hassle to use. The reply function at least works although, yes, it looks super messy on the laptop, but in the app version?

So yes, the app is even worse, which is an accomplishment, so congrats, Goodreads, I guess. The feed is so annoying as well. I usually just give up on the feed altogether after like, 10 posts.

Like Liked by 1 person. It truly is terrible! Ugh yes, typing the title in perfectly and it still not coming up is the worst. Or when you get ONE letter wrong and something completely different pops up??

The reply function on mobile is an endless source of frustration for me. Social media sites are supposed to make you WANT to keep using them, but Goodreads does the opposite?? I thought I was the only one.

I completely agree with everything you said. This site is constantly frustrating me. They should definitely invest in some upgrades. Do you think they will? Like Like. I enter those contests a lot. By the way, I love your blog. I look forward to your posts and always read them. There are not many blogs I can say that about. Thanks so much! Goodreads reeeeaaaally needs to fix so much.

It would be much better if we could choose what we see in our feeds! And the app truly is atrocious. I constantly have to restart it in order to do anything! It really does! Because it made me despair and cackle all at once.
